In Paris, Vogue World combines fashion with sports.

In Paris, Vogue World combines fashion with sports.

An extremely glamorous clash between fashion and sport took place in the heart of Paris on Sunday, coinciding with the Olympic Games, when Vogue hosted its most recent branding event. The fashion bible has moved to star-studded events in an attempt to maintain its relevance as magazine sales have plummeted.

“Vogue World: Paris” was opportunely timed to coincide with International Olympic Day and fashion week, mirroring comparable events in New York and London.

Taking over Place Vendome in the city center, the concept was to pair a different activity, such as fencing, breakdancing, or gymnastics, with a decade of fashion from the previous century — since Paris last held the Games in 1924.

The 800 guests, who included Pharrell Williams, Venus Williams, Katy Perry, and Bad Bunny, were treated to a classical rendition of Daft Punk’s “Around the World” by the orchestra as Jean Paul Gaultier finished the vocalist Aya Nakamura’s dress.

In the first segment of the program, Nakamura sang and cycling was combined with 1920s attire, including classic Chanel gowns from the era.

Supermodels Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid once galloped across the square while wearing Hermes.

The clothing was also provided by Dior, Balmain, Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton, and Saint Laurent.

“We’re here to honor the marvel that is French fashion. Therefore, I’m just appreciative of all the help from the French community and the Paris fashion industry,” Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour told AFP prior to the event’s start.
